RecycleTech Limited, based in Ipswich, who are one of the regions premier recyclers of tyres, continue to expand and increase diversity of the services offered with the purchase of a tyre shredding system capable of converting whole passenger tyres to a wire free “ménage” product suitable for equestrian arena surfacing.

The shredders supplied by ISS, Industrial Shredding Systems Limited to RecycleTech are the Quad-Shear GZ50T, 4 shaft shredder & Dual-Shear AZ11/700, 2 shaft shredder which feature cutting chambers of 500mm wide x 700mm long (primary shredder) and 700mm wide x 990mm long (secondary shredder) and 1 x 18.5kW & 2 x 30kW drive motors respectively.

The primary shredder size reduces the whole passenger tyre which is then conveyed into the secondary shredder. The product is then shredded and recirculated in the secondary shredder fitted with integral screen. Once the tyre material has been recirculated to a nominal 20mm minus chip it gravity feeds onto a trough belt discharge conveyor.

The product at this stage still contains metal and free bead wire which has been liberated from the rubber. The product then passes through an overband magnet separator which removes around 85% of the wire. The cleaner rubber continues onwards and then passes over a permanent head magnet for removal of the remaining wire and fines. The result is a clean, almost (99.9%) wire free product that is used extensively for a variety of surfacing applications. The waste wire can be baled and sent for recycling.
